Point Sur Lighthouse
Big sur,ca
One of the more spectacular lighthouses still remaining and, still active.
Located in the Big Sur area, surrounded by awesome views of mountains, ocean and big sky, this unforgettable place will forever remain in your memories.
The lighthouse is tucked away on the side of a big rock seemingly separated from the mainland; but in fact, it is connected.
It is somewhat difficult to see from the Pacific Coast Highway if you are traveling south during daylight hours with the sun in your eyes. Northbound is slightly easier, but remember, this wonder is tucked up high inside the rocks, facing the ocean.
Pt. Sur Light is 250 feet above sea level and is identified from seaward, by a flashing white light every 15 seconds. Her light is visible for twenty-five miles.
There is a great restaurant about three to five miles north of the Light. It too, is built out on the rocks overlooking the ocean. If you're having dinner or stopping for refreshments, you will be treated to watching the beacon light up. And usually, as the sky darkens, you will witness a spectacular sunset, shooting stars and the Milky Way.
Makes you glad to be alive!
