Chicago Harbor Lighthouse
Chicago, il
The first lighthouse erected was erected here in 1832 to guide mariners safely into the Chicago River. In 1893, the present lighthouse was built to replace the original light but was relocated on the breakwater in 1919.
She stands eighty-two above sea level and flashes a red light every five seconds that is visible for twenty-four statue miles - and she sounds her horn in fog.
Lighthouse keepers manned the light until 1979 when she was automated.
