Cape Disappointment Light
Cape disappointment, wa
Cape Disappointment Light is the first lighthouse to be built in the booming Pacific Northwest. In 1848 $53,000 was set aside to buy the materials to build the light, but the bark Oriole delivering the materials ran aground, losing the cargo - but the crew survived.
This beautiful light, perched on a cliff overlooking the Columbia River stands 220 feet high and shows an alternating White and Red light every 30 seconds visible from 18 miles away.
In 1856 after many hardships - the light was finally lit. One very beautiful place.
